Digeotruss Structure System

Below is structural system I designed while in graduate school at SAIC for an exhibition at iSalone International Design Week, Milan 2009. The project used Rhino and CNC fabrication to create highly irregularly curved but structural forms with a custom geodesic-meets-lamella truss modular design. This was my first work in parametric design… I still love it. Not shown below is the final tensioning system - cable + marine turnbuckles.

The Digeotruss also supported an interactive lighting installation which employed a camera and particle cloud map to sense and react to movement instead of motion sensors.

The “Digeotruss” is at once playful and immensely serious - on the one hand seeking full plasticity of form; on the other seeking a rigorous standard of inherent structural design integrity.
